LOCAL VALIDATIONVEHICLE RECALL GUIDANCE
A clearer starting point for vehicle safety. Check your VIN’s format and prepare for an official recall lookup.
No VIN upload or account creation.
A format check, not a safety verdict.
Guidance for a real recall lookup.
THE PROCESS
No guesswork about what’s happening.
Here’s what this tool actually does.
Enter your VIN. We check its length and permitted characters, right here in your browser.
LOCAL VALIDATIONSee your VIN reference and a clearly labelled preview. This is not a vehicle history or recall report.
NO RECALL RESULTSFor U.S. recall information, use NHTSA’s official lookup. Follow up with your vehicle manufacturer.
Open official lookup (opens a new tab)WHY CHECK
A correctly formatted VIN is a starting point, not the whole picture.
Getting the characters right helps you prepare for your next lookup. This tool does not verify that a vehicle exists.
A successful format check says nothing about open recalls, repairs, ownership or roadworthiness.
Check actual recall information separately. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for any identified recall.
FIND YOUR REFERENCE
Start with the vehicle or its paperwork.
Read all 17 characters carefully.
Look near the lower-left corner of the windshield, on the driver’s side.
Your vehicle registration card includes the vehicle identification number.
Your VIN may also appear on your vehicle insurance card.
VIN location guidance: NHTSA (opens a new tab). Vehicle layouts may vary.
GOOD QUESTIONS
What this tool does.
And what it doesn’t.
No. This build checks VIN format locally and prepares a reference preview. It does not connect to a recall database. The recall status always reads “Not checked.”
It is kept in the current page’s memory for the form and preview. It is not added to a URL, saved by this application, or sent to analytics or a lookup service.
This form accepts exactly 17 Latin letters and digits, excluding I, O and Q. Spaces are removed and letters become uppercase. It checks this format only, not a checksum or vehicle identity.
No. The full-report button is intentionally disabled. The three preview cards are static placeholders, not report results or instructions to run anything on your device.
For U.S. vehicles, visit NHTSA’s official recall lookup (opens a new tab). For other markets, consult your manufacturer or local vehicle safety authority. We do not send your VIN to these sites.
